Referee Russell Mora Fail: Abner Mares Gave Joseph Agbeko 49 Low Blows [Video]

Joseph Agbeko lost his IBF Bantamweight title last August 13, 2011 when Abner Mares won via Majority Decision at their Bantamweight Tournament Final: Winner Takes All bout held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

It was a close fight all through-out but it was tainted by bad officiating. No, make that… very, very bad officiating.

For 12 rounds, Mares repeatedly gave Agbeko illegal low blows (a total of 49 according to Showtime executives) but despite 6 warnings, referee Russell Mora failed to penalize him.

Mora even ruled a knockdown for Mares in Round 11 when it was clear that a low blow was the reason why Agbeko dropped to his knees while wincing in pain.

Two judges scored the bout 115-111 for Mares, while the other had it even at 113. Were it not for that miscalled knockdown, Agbeko would retain his title in a draw.
