The pay-per-view king is back!
After a 16-month break from boxing, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., boxing’s current top draw along with Manny Paquiao will face Victor Ortiz for the WBC Welterweight Championship title on September 16, 2011.
This is another sure-fire hit on the pay-per-view market as Mayweather has proven himself to be a big box-office draw with his bout with Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 setting the record for most PPV buys for a boxing match with 2.7 million households.
His last two fights with Juan Manuel Márquez and Shane Mosley broke the 1 million mark as well.
In his seven pay-per-view fights, Mayweather has generated a star-bursting 6.9 million buys and $375 million in pay-per-view revenue, $78 million of which was from his fight against Sugar Shane Mosley on May 1, 2010.
