On May 8, 2004, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez met for the first time at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
In the first round, Pacquiao showed how powerful he is when he knocked down Marquez three times.
He was so dominant in that first round that some referees might have stopped the fight right after the third knockdown.
Marquez went on to survive the round, showing great heart and utilizing his counter-punches to effectively neutralize Pacquiao’s aggressiveness.
The fight was declared a controversial draw (115–110 for Márquez, 115–110 for Pacquiao, and 113–113).
