Current pound-for-pound the best boxer in the world Manny Pacquiao puts his WBA Welterweight Championship title on the line against the reigning WBO/WBA Lightweight Champion Marquez and number five in the pound for pound list Marquez.
The bout will be fought at a catchweight of 144 lbs.
This is already the third meeting between the two fighters. Their first meeting in 2004 ended in a draw when Marquez rallied in the latter rounds despite getting knocked down three times in the first round. They had a rematch in 2008 which ended in a controversial split decision for Pacquiao. The Filipino’s knockdown of the Mexican in round 3 is what swayed the decision in his favor.
Pacquiao is heavily favored 8-1 to win the third meeting but Marquez is reportedly ‘ready to die’ against Pacquiao.
Judge Robert Hoyle scored it a draw, 114-114. But judges Dave Moretti and Glenn Trowbridge had it 115-113 and 116-112 respectively to give the Majority Decision win to Pacquiao.

NOTES:
According to CompuBox, Pacquiao landed 176 of 578 punches. Marquez connected on 138 of 436 punches, preferring, as in his first two fights, to counter punch. Pacquiao had a 117-100 edge in power shots.
Pacquiao retained his WBO Welterweight title and extended his winning streak to 15 fights but his status as the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world is now in question.
