Manny Pacquiao should assert what he wants when he meets with Bob Arum today regarding who he wants to fight next – which is Floyd Mayweather, Jr. of course.
In an interview over the phone by PhilBoxing’s Eddie Alinea, Pacquiao said,
“I’ve said this over and over before and I’m saying this again,I want Floyd Mayweather Jr. to be my next opponent and I haven’t changed my choice despite recent developments. I am meeting with my promoter, Bob Arum on Tuesday and I will insist that the fight with Mayweather be given the preference than the four others in the list I will fight next.”

“It’s not really fair for some quarters to blame me if, in the long run, the fight wouldn’t push through. As I have also been saying many times before, I fight for the fans. I want the fans to be happy always.”
“Whoever the fans want me to fight, I will face him atop the ring. I don’t choose fights. It is my promoter who does because it’s his job. My job is to fight, everybody must realize that.”
“Whoever says I’m ducking this fighter or that fighter, doesn’t know me, or just plainly wants to put me in bad light. I never dodged from fighting anybody. If I did, I won’t be where I am now.”
So, Pacquiao is basically saying that he wants to fight Mayweather, yet, he will still leave the job of choosing who he faces next to his promoter Bob Arum.
If that’s the case, the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight will never happen.
Earlier indications are pointing to the fact that Arum himself doesn’t want it to happen.
Even though Mayweather is now free to fight on May 5 after Las Vegas County judge Melissa Saragosa allowed Floyd Mayweather, Jr’s incarceration to be postponed until June 1, Arum is now giving thousand excuses why it can’t be held on that date.
Pacquiao added,
“I will abide by his (Mayweather’s) demand for drug testing. I am even agreeable to get lesser purse just so the fight would push through. In other words, as far as my side is concerned, there will be no problem.”
“Mayweather has no promoter. He negotiates by himself. So if the fight won’t be realized, it’s no longer because of me.”
It could not happen either because of Pacquiao’s promoter himself.
Now’s the time for him to demand the fight against Arum’s personal motives.
