Freddie Roach Wants Pacquiao to Knockout Marquez

In an interview with OnTheGrind Boxing Radio, trainer Freddie Roach says that he will urge his ward Manny Pacquiao to knockout Juan Manuel Marquez on their third meeting this November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas.

The first two meetings between the two boxers were very controversial.

In 2004, Pacquiao dropped Marquez three times in the first round of their featherweight championship fight, but Marquez battled back to claim a draw that many believed he won.

In 2008, they met again for the junior lightweight championship, and Pacquiao won a similarly controversial split decision.

Freddie Roach said,

“I can’t wait for this fight, for Manny to finally shut them up and show that they were not robbed the first two times. He does know how to fight Manny Pacquiao. He’s a very smart fighter. I sometimes wonder if he has our number, but Manny has come a long way since the last fight. He’s a more complete fighter”.

“I know the guy will be very game, but I think this time Manny will be way too strong for him. I’m going to urge Manny to put the pressure on this guy and get him out of there so there is no doubt.”

Roach also admitted that he has not been happy with the pound-for-pound king’s lack of killer instinct in his recent bouts, especially against Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley. He said that Pacquiao felt too much compassion for his opponents.

Both of Pacquiao’s bouts against Margarito and Mosley ended in unanimous decision victories.
