Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Calls Out Manny Pacquiao on Twitter

At the Mayweather vs Ortiz press conference held at Nokia Center in Los Angeles, California last June 30, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. called out Manny Pacquiao saying that Pacquiao is next.

It was the first bold statement from Mayweather who many felt were ducking the current Ring Magazine number one pound for pound fighter.

However in September during an interview at his media workout, Mayweather rescinded,

“I never said [Pacquiao would be next] at all. So please, don’t put words in my mouth. Nothing is a precursor.”

That effectively put out hopes of the two ever meeting inside the ring.

Then just today, the reigning WBC welterweight champion issued a public challenge to Pacquiao on his twitter account,

Mayweather is already available on that date after Judge Melissa Saragosa postponed his prison sentence due to a domestic abuse case to June 1.

This is not surprising given Pacquiao’s poor performance against Juan Manuel Marquez last November 12.

Pacquiao has actually confirmed that negotiations are ongoing with the Mayweather camp regarding a possible mega-fight last November with Pacquiao stating,

“Mayweather may be thinking, ‘I can fight Pacquiao now because he had trouble against Marquez, and I was able to beat up Marquez.’”

If recent  news are to be believed however, it seems that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum doesn’t want Pacquiao vs Mayweather to happen despite Pacquiao’s demand that he wants Mayweather to be his next opponent.

If a deal won’t go through, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has suggested Mayweather’s Cinco de Mayo fight could be against Mexican champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez or lightweight champion Robert Guerrero.
